My name is Andrew Howard and, together with my brothers Max and Ross, we took over the running of Grove Farm in the summer of 2008.Our family has been farming for over 150 years on the edge of Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire. We grow a range of produce on our sandy soils with carrots and potatoes being the main crops. Max also manages a herd of pedigree Aberdeen Angus cattle. You can read more about our farming activities by visiting www.howardfarms.co.uk Grove is a typical Lakeland hill farm, running to some 160 acres of grass and woodland on the slopes of the Stock Valley. The pastures on the farm are home to our herd of pedigree Dunn Galloway cattle. The cattle are sold to local speciality butchers, and complement our work with the Angus cattle in Nottinghamshire. When not busy on the farm, we are all devotees of the great outdoors. We have collectively spent a great deal of time in the Peak District as well as the Lake District getting our outdoor fix in all manner of forms, from adventure racing to mountain biking, fell running and of course, the all- important leisurely afternoon stroll to walk off that pub-lunch! Grove Cottages at Grove Farm have given us the opportunity to share our love of the Lakeland countryside, and guests can enjoy first hand the same amazing views and sense of peaceful serenity that attracted us on our first visit. Previous visitors to Grove Farm will know that we are blessed with a fantastically stunning location, and with Ambleside being so close there is plenty to do without spending too much of your valuable holiday time in the car. The Cottages are managed on a day-to-day basis by our own staff, available during the week on regular visits to the farm. There is more often than not a member of the Howard family around on the farm as well, especially at weekends. Just try keeping us away! |
